Friday Night Viewing: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

This movie is everything I wanted The Force Awakens to be.  The space battles were AMAZING.  And this Little Ship that Could, this Freakin' Hammerhead Cruiser...of Awesomeness!

Y'know, I wasn't too afraid of Vader before, even when I was a kid.  And then I watched the last few minutes of this movie.  Yeah.

Super sweet and super short update.

I've kind of fallen behind on things and I'm slowly catching up.  As I type, The Hubs has just landed at London Heathrow and will be home in a few hours.  It's been nice having the house AND Jet Black all to myself, but I miss my Dude.  Plus, I'm still traumatized by I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House and I hate being alone in house.  I'd probably be less freaked out if we lived in a flat and not a two-story terraced with stairs.  And an attic.  No one goes up there.

One of the main things I've slagged off of for the past few weeks is exercise.  As much as I enjoy Fitness Blender on Youtube, I've been getting bored, so I've branched out.

I had my butt kicked royally by Mr. Billy Blanks.  And I'm going to let him do it again.  And again.  I'm not going lie;  I sometimes can't keep up because I'm not very coordinated, but I'm enjoying the workouts.  I'm enjoying all the jabbing, upper-cutting, hooking, and kicking.  Front kicks, back kicks, side kicks.  I really needed a workout that I could channel all of last week's aggression into and I think I found it, thankyouverymuch.

I'm really trying to focus on typing this but I'm listening to Jet Black run around like a maniac, playing with his numerous crumpled-up paper balls (his real kitty toys are gathering dust in the cat tower) and it's driving me up the wall.  The lights in the kitchen are turned off and I can only see his eyes in the dark.  Sneaky McSneakerson.

Note to Self: Don't Implode.

Seriously, I won't implode.  Everyone else is losing their minds right now, and I wanted to lose my mind, and that won't help anyone, really.

Moving forward, I'm going to keep on keeping on, only now with more vigor, and with an open heart.  No sexist, bigoted orange-spray tanned buffoon is going to drag me down.

Happy November. Now quit it with the scary clowns.

Well, I had a quiet Halloween night in, as usual.  Lights turned off and curtains drawn to deter trick-or-treaters.  Made the mistake of watching a creepy movie in the dark.  Spent the rest of the night watching upbeat and colorful anime to keep back the encroaching terror of going to the bathroom by myself.

It helps to have a trusty Spook Detector by your side.

Happy Halloween!

These guys aren't ours, they belong to the glorious people who live a couple of houses down from us.  This was taken weeks ago, so I'm assuming that since they're no longer there, they suffered the same mushy fate as our Cthulhu-theme jack-o-lantern from two years back.

Waking Up to Monday: "Winds of Winter" composed by Ramin Djawadi, off Game of Thrones S6 OST

I'm feeling a bit Khaleesi this morning.

Waking Up on Monday: "7 Days" by Craig David

Since moving to England, I've been trolling my younger sister online with gratuitous Craig David mentions ("I'm listening to Craig David, in ENGLAND!).  She had a thing for him back in the day.

Friday Night Viewing: The Magnificent Seven

I somehow managed to avoid the critics' reviews of this movie because I didn't want to ruin my experience watching it.

My experience wasn't ruined.  I enjoyed it.  My favorite character was Jack Horn, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, even though I had some difficulty understanding what he was saying most of the time.  Seriously, he sounded like he was going through puberty.

"Jet Ja-Guar? Jet Ja-Guar!"

His name is Jet, and he's two months old.

It was my idea to name him after this Jet, but when I'm playing with the little dude, I refer to him as 'Jet Jaguar'.  Thanks a bunch, MST3K!

Waking Up to Monday: "Babooshka" by Kate Bush

Every once in a while, I go on a Kate Bush binge.

An Update

No, I'm not dead.  I've been working on a personal project and it's been kicking my butt for the last week and a half.  I'm kinda not ready to open up about it yet because it's still technically under construction, but I'll say this:  I'm sacrificing a lot of personal Youtube binge time for this thing, and it's taking a toll on my brain cells.  Like, seriously, I should not be staying up past 2am staring at a blank word document.  I've been working on my glutes and all this prolonged sitting around is not helping!  Gah!

Waking Up to Monday: "1963" by New Order

I've seen the video for this song, and it doesn't match up to the overall drama invoked by the lyrics.  I'm just sayin'.

Hello, childhood! Celebrating the 37th anniversary of the first publication of 'The Neverending Story'

It's hard not to sing out loud the theme song from the movie.

When you get a chance, pop on over to Google's homepage and admire today's Google Doodles commemorating the 37th anniversary of the first publication of The Neverending Story, by Michael Ende.
I'm a child of the 80's, so like a lot of kids back then I saw the movie first.  Epic comfort viewing, but I hated watching it with my brothers because they would make fun of me for crying during the sad moments.  Anyway, it wasn't until I got to high school that I finally got a hold of the book and discovered just how large Bastian's role in The Neverending Story actually was.
I highly recommend reading the book yourself if you can get a hold of a copy at your local library.

Waking Up to Monday: "The Brae" by Yumi Zouma

I call you out when you're around
Slipping off into the same old habits
Calling others fools when you're defenseless
Try this once and try again
Talking to yourself out loud to no one
Seems you're never very far from your problems

MAC, you are not helping me save money. Not at all.

Fat danggit, MAC.  I was planning on not spending money on any cosmetics for the next year and some months (I stocked up on all my drugstore faves in the last couple of weeks before we moved)  much less high-end cosmetics.  And then you had to come out with a Troll doll themed line, and now I'm conflicted between wanting and needing.  AGAIN.

Only Jon Stewart Can Make Sense of the Trump Candidacy

I'm not a political person, and whatever opinions I do have on the subject I usually only express with friends, otherwiseI tend to keep a lot to myself.  But every so often I watch something that just begs to be shared.

Saturday Afternoon Viewing: Ghostbusters

I really wish it had been funnier, considering the various comic talents involved.  There were (for me) cringe-y bits and silly one-liners that could have been written better, but the parts that were laugh-out-loud funny made up for them.
The Hubs mentioned afterward as we were walking home how the new Ghostbusters are not straight-up female versions of the original cast.  Like, you can't take one of them and say, "Oh, she's the Venkman of the group, and that other gal is the Ray..." and such.  They are all new, with totally different personalities that set them apart from the characters we all know and love from the original films.

The one big takeaway from the movie:  Holtzman.  She is my new spirit animal.

Weekend Scramble: Pokemon Go

Yesterday afternoon I noticed the influx of young people wandering up and down my street, and now I know the reason for it.

And not just the young ones.  A handful of grown, adult friends on Facebook are up in the wee earlier morning hours and outside (!?) looking for Pokemon!  Made me think, 'Really, Queen?'

The Hubs has the game as well, but hasn't expressed much about it other than the occasional, "I just caught a Pokemon out here." or "Hey, there's a Pokemon here in the house."

I'm not big into mobile app games, but I have played Pokemon on the Nintendo DS.  It's loads fun but a tad more high-maintenance than I expected.  I was imagining that Pokemon Go was the same thing, and I really didn't want a go chunk of my time devoted to trying to 'Catch Them All!'  But I did want to see what the big deal was about, so late last night before bed I downloaded the game to my phone, made my character, and promptly caught my first Pokemon, Charmander.  Yes, I caught you once while playing Pokemon XY.  I made you play second banana to my awesome Greninja.
Anywhoo, that was that, and I went to bed.  Then this morning while trudging to the kitchen I looked at my phone and spotted a wild Rattata.  Okay, cool.  I'll catch this one, I thought, and I did.  Then on a whim I decided I would use incense to try and attract other Pokemon to me, since I was in the house and not really actively searching for them.  I did not expect to catch five more Pokemon WHILE MAKING BREAKFAST.  Holy crap.

I'm not quite addicted yet, oh no siree.  But I am quite excited to take this game outside my house and into town, or maybe the Abbey Gardens.  I'll definitely won't be the only adult out there with this game, I assure you.

Waking Up to Monday: "Sissy that Walk" by RuPaul

I knew I was going to have a good workout on the treadmill when I put this song on my Ipod.  2 miles - with a 5 minute pause in between cuz I had to reset the machine and one of my plastic earbud thingies popped off and I had to look for it.

Persona 5 trailer

Seriously, the Persona series, love it.  Besides Ni No Kuni and The Kingdom Hearts series, rarely are there games that are made so well that you really care for the characters.  I'm hoping P5 is just as good.

Greetings From...

Gorgeous Suffolk, England!

Seriously, it's damp and humid right now, and I'm sick.  Every part of me is feeling the jetlag, especially my face.  The Man and I had a very long and restful sleep though, here in our temporary lodgings on post, but I'm congested and my throat hates me.  Luna probably hates me as well because our temporary lodgings doesn't accept pets and she has to stay with The Man's newest bff's co-worker.

But we're here in England!  The place where most of my favorite books and movies and tv shows takes place!  Woot!  For the next two years or so, this will be home, sweet home!  And so far, my laptop and phone are still working after plugging them both in to charge, so score.  The Man hasn't killed us yet driving on the left side of the road in our right driver's side rental car.

Pics will be plentiful, I promise.  But for right now, I have to scrounge up something to eat and look through my luggage to check the status on the liquids that traveled with me.  If any of them exploded during the flight, well...I shelled out before hand on ziplock bags, and I think I used every single one of them.

Nerdgasm Alert: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story teaser trailer

I don't know what I squeed at the most,  the menacing AT-ATs, Donnie Yen kicking ass or the reappearence Mon Mothma.

Sunday Afternoon Viewing: Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

Lots of disjointed scenes that didn't connect, flashbacks that could have been shorter or done away with completely, a lack of real dialogue and just so much they could have made better.  BUT...there are also quite a few things that a well-rounded comic fan like The Hubs caught and understood.  I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would, especially after reading the reviews pior to seeing the movie and letting myself get bummed out by them.

Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne was a pleasant surprise.  Seriously.

Wonder Woman joining the fight like she did was THE BEST SCENE EVERRRRRRRR!!!

Holy crapola, I'm not really schooled in the DC universe (my only reference being the Justice League cartoon I use to watch back in college), but the metahumans scene got me so excited!

Happy Easter!

Hope everyone is enjoying this blessed Easter Day!  For my fellow Christians, Rejoice for He has Risen!
And for the rest of ya'll, save me all the heads of all the dark chocolate bunnies cuz they're MINE!!!  *nom nom nom*

The Hubs and I are seeing Batman Vs Superman later today, despite blistering reviews.  I am more of a Marvel fan, but I do love Batman in all it's forms (Batman:  The Animated Series is one of my favorite cartoons of all time, and I experienced my first real physical arousal watching the old 60's Batman t.v. series, cuz of Robin.  I lived for the moments when Robin got kidnapped.) so I'm going to try to go into this without a lot of expectations.  Just want to see a movie with My Man and have a lively nerdtastic conversation in the car afterwards.

And the music world has lost another one.

I didn't even know anyone else in The Eagles besides Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit until the band came back together to perform on MTV Unplugged for the Hell Freezes Over album waaaaaaay back in the 90's.  And then I found out later on who the member was behind this song:

Rest In Peace, Mr. Frey.
