Best recipe for surviving a tv binge without reaching for the Doritos.

I've definitely found my best green smoothie blend: pineapple chunks, spinach, and celery. The spinach blends smoother than kale (ech!), celery adds spice, and the pineapple sweetens the deal. Add less than half a cup of water, almond milk or pineapple juice for a thicker blend. Spoonful of Greek yogurt optional if not using almond milk. Look at me spouting healthy advice like a pro. The Gods Must be Cray-Cray.

Marathoning Elementary today, and it's so much better the second time around. An Aidan Quinn as Capt. Gregson is so much better the second time around RAWRRR. Oh Joan and Sherlock, please never go the way of all the other crime shows with their male-female leads falling out of platonic partnership and into a dull romantic relationship.

Monday Afternoon Viewing: You're Next

Urgh. Gonzo, I love you but we should have gone to see Elysium. I watched 99% of the movie behind my fingers. The only thing I enjoyed was at the waaaaaaaaaaay beginning, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt enthusiastically introducing the trailer for his own film, Don Jon.
Oh, and lunch was awesome too! I especially love how we tried to get to the bottom of Miley Cyrus's cray-cray at this year's VMAs.

Surprisingly tasty green smoothie!

Who needs a fancy juicer when you have a dependable (and old) blender at your disposable? Not this girl. I'm pretty sure the upstairs neighbors appreciate the vrrrrrrr! at 7 in the morning.

The basics: chopped spinach, 1-2 celery stalks - finely chopped - half an apple, also chopped (use the other half for later), some pineapple chunks, a spoonful of Greek yogurt. Since this is a blender I'm using, I add less than half a cup of water or pineapple juice saved from the can of pineapple chunks.
Throw the whole shebang into the blender and pulse on high until the concoction is blended smooth.
Pour it into your husband's beer glass that he got from Tilted Kilt (stoopid midriff-baring, tiny kilt-wearing underaged waitresses) and enjoy.

Well freakin' hell, finally a trailer!

I first heard about the actual Monuments Men when I watch The Rape of Europa on Netflix. It's a documentary based on the book by Lynn H. Nicholas about how the Hitler and the Nazis stole and looted art and treasures from private collectors and then the countries they conquered in WWII. In the last three or four years of the war, a small group of men with expertise in art and architecture was tasked by the U.S. to somehow protect and recover the art treasures and monuments.

I'm currently finishing up on Robert M Edsel's The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, the book the movie is based on. I have plans to buy the follow-up by Edsel, Saving Italy, which covers the Monuments Men in Italy, practically an open treasure trove disguised as a country.

I suggest watching The Rape of Europa on Netflix. It's one of my favorite docs, and I can't tell you how many times I've watched it.
